Magic Recipe for Tarnished Silver
My neighbor down the street was having a Yard Sale a few weeks ago so I went down a few houses, in my pajamas no less, to check it out. I saw some beautiful pieces of silver but they were tarnished beyond all recognition. They were almost completely blue! But I tend to give yard sale finds the benefit of the doubt and I can sometimes see the beauty through the ashes. So I bought myself a Silver bowl and a Silver tray and was hopeful that I could somehow bring them back to their former glory.
I looked up ways online to see how to remove tarnish from Silver. This particular recipe kept popping up on tons of different blogs. So I figured that it might be some sort of magic recipe and I decided to try it out – especially because I had all of the ingredients on hand already! Here are the supplies that you need:
- Hot water
- 2 Tablespoons Sea Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
- Aluminum Foil
- Bucket or Sink
I put the stopper in my sink drain and filled up my sink about halfway with super hot water. Then I layered the bottom of the sink with Aluminum Foil. After that, I added in the Baking Soda and the Salt and gave it a good stir until I felt like they were dissolved. Then I added in my bowl and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Because my bowl was much taller than the amount of water I had prepared, I could only do parts of the bowl at a time. When I turned the bowl around for the first time to see if it was working, I was shocked! It looked beautiful!
I certainly didn’t expect it to work that well, but I was so happy about it! I proceeded to do the rest of the bowl and I was pretty happy with the results. There still seemed to be some remaining spots that wouldn’t come clean so I used some Silver Polish to finish it off and now it looks so beautiful! There are still some noticeable scratches but the finish overall turned out fantastic! So don’t throw out those old pieces of silver, even if they do look terrible. With a little bit of TLC, they can look brand new in no time!
Look at that finished product! This recipe for tarnished silver is truly MAGIC! Try it out for yourself!
