How to Organize Ties: Tips for Keeping Them Tidy and Wrinkle-Free

If you have a tie collection that seems to be constantly growing, you may have trouble keeping it organized. If you’re not careful, that collection can easily become a mess!

Ties can be difficult to organize because of their slippery material, and they can easily become wrinkled if not stored properly. In this post, we will give you tips on how to store your ties so that they are tidy and wrinkle-free. With the right tools, organizing your ties can be a breeze!

I bought this pull-out tie organizer for my husband’s ties and it’s been my favorite method by far!

How to Store Men’s Ties

Before we discuss how to organize ties, we need to talk about necktie storage. No matter what system you use to organize ties, it won’t work in the long term if you don’t have a designated area in your wardrobe or closet to store ties.

So the first thing you need to do is check out your closet space. Where do you want to store your ties? Do you have room to hang them in the closet? Are you going to place them on a closet shelf? A dresser drawer? There are many options for storing ties, so take a look at your space and decide what will work best for you.

Hanging Ties

If you have the space, hanging ties is always a good option because it keeps them from getting wrinkled. You can purchase tie hangers that hold multiple ties, or you can simply use regular clothes hangers. Using regular hangers can be a bit tricky, however, since ties tend to slip off easily, especially if they are silk.

We have this tie hanger and my husband loves it! It can store up to 25 ties and they are easy to keep organized. You can mount it on the closet wall, and one of the best parts about it is that it slides out for easier access!

So you can hang it on the wall behind clothes and then just slide it out when you need to choose a tie in the morning! It’s my favorite tie rack. If you want to hang ties in your closet space, I highly recommend that tie rack.

If your collection of neckties is really large, you might need to get multiple tie racks or find hanging tie racks that store lots of neckties.

Storing Ties in a Dresser Drawer

If you don’t like tie racks and prefer the idea of a tie drawer, then that’s definitely an option, too. You can get a dresser with lots of small drawers, or you can find a tie box that fits in a regular dresser drawer.

Tie boxes fit rolled ties and you can organize and store ties in small compartments within a large tie box. Obviously, hanging ties keep them wrinkle-free, but don’t worry – with ties rolled loosely, they won’t get wrinkly. Don’t roll them too tightly though!

A drawer is a great way to store ties, but a tie box can take up a lot of space. So if you don’t have a lot of drawer space, then this method isn’t for you. You definitely don’t want to just throw ties in your drawer – they’ll be difficult to keep tidy and smooth. So if you don’t have room for nicely rolled ties, consider hanging ties or using a shelf instead of a drawer.

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED TO HANG TIES

Using a Shelf

If you have a lot of shelves in your closet, they can definitely work to store ties. Using closet shelves to store your ties is a great way to keep them organized and tidy. You can use small baskets or even just lay them flat on the shelves. Just make sure that they’re not going to slide off!

You can also store them in a tie box on lower shelves, or use a standing tie rack on higher shelves! A tie box does work well if you have a lot of bow ties in your collection. While bow ties can be hung on racks, sometimes they look better placed in a tie box!

Roll Your Ties

Another way to organize your ties is by rolling them up. This is another great method to keep the ties from getting wrinkled.

You can build a cubby system that you can store vertically or choose to store in a dresser or closet drawer. This gives each tie it’s own designated space and keeps your ties tidy and clean.

Manage the Size of Your Tie Storage

When you’re picking out tie storage options, make sure you’re getting tie organizers that have enough space for all of your neckties and have a bit of extra room for any new ties you get.

Otherwise, you can implement the one-in, one-out rule. When you get a new tie, then you have to get rid of a tie! This will keep your ties organized even through the years.

How to Organize Men’s Ties

Once you’ve decided how to store your ties in your closet, it’s time to organize them. There are several ways to organize ties, but finding the right method for you will depend on how many ties you have and how often you wear them.

By Color

If you have a large tie collection, it may be best to keep them organized by color or pattern. This way, you can easily find the tie you’re looking for when getting dressed in the morning.

When your ties are organized by color, you can easily find the one to match your suit each morning. You’ll know right where your blue ties are, red ties, etc. Organizing by color helps keep your collection neat and easy to navigate.

By Pattern

If you don’t buy a lot of ties in multiple colors and tend to wear ties of mostly the same color, then organizing by tie pattern can be a great way to keep your ties tidy.

This method is also helpful if you have trouble deciding which tie goes with which shirt or suit. By keeping all the striped ties together, for example, it will be easier to mix and match them with different outfits.

By Purpose

Finally, you can organize your ties by purpose. If you have some ties designated for important meetings, others for normal works days, and others for other events, then you can keep your tie storage organized in that way.

You can also organize them based on what you want easier access to. For example, you can keep your favorite ties near the front so you can grab them quickly.

Final Tips

There’s no best way to organize ties. There are a lot of different methods that you can use, and it really depends on what works best for you. The important thing is to keep them organized in a way that makes sense to you so that you can easily grab the ties you need.

Whether you have a dozen ties or a hundred, finding a way to organize your ties will protect them from wrinkles while saving you time in the morning!

I hope these ideas can help you keep your ties stored neatly in your closet so you can always find the perfect tie for your suits!
