How do I organize my entertainment center?

In order to organize your entertainment center, you need to first determine what items you use most often. Do you watch a lot of movies? Do you play a lot of video games? Do you have a lot of DVDs or Blu-rays? Once you know what items you use most often, you can begin to organize them in a way that makes sense for your space.

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED

Here category list of things you can store in your entertainment center:

Organizing your entertainment center doesn’t have to be difficult. By taking the time to figure out what you use most often, you can easily find a way to organize that makes sense for your space.

Declutter

The most important thing you can do to organize your entertainment center is to declutter. Go through all of your movies, video games, music, etc., and get rid of anything you no longer want or use. This will help you immensely when it comes to organizing the rest of your space.

Determine what items can be moved to another area of the house

After you have decluttered, take a look at what is left and determine what can be moved to another area of the house. For example, if you have a lot of movies but don’t use your DVD player often, you could put those movies in storage and only keep a few out that you know you’ll watch regularly.

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED

Throw Away the Original Packaging of your DVDs

One of my very favorite organizational ideas I’ve ever done is to throw away the original packaging for our DVDs. Our DVDs used to take up two shelves but after I repackaged them, they only took up the space in this small box. This gave me significantly more space and allowed me to give that space to other electronics or hide cables.

Create Zones

Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to create zones. Decide what things are most important for you to store here. Now that you’ve gotten rid of the things that are no longer important to you, you have more space to work with. You can create a movie zone, a gaming zone, or even just a general storage area.

Position Electronics in the Correct Place

You also want to make sure you’re putting your electronics in the correct place. If you have a TV, it should be the centerpiece of your entertainment center. Then, you want to put any gaming consoles or DVD players underneath the TV. This way, everything is easily within reach and cords aren’t running all over the place.

Designate areas in your entertainment center to particular item groups

You should also designate areas in your entertainment center to particular item groups. For example, you might want to put all of your DVDs in one area and all of your video games in another area. This will help you keep everything organized and easy to find.

This is also really important if you have a husband or kids. That way they can easily put things away where you intend them to be.

I have a drawer in my entertainment center designated as my junk drawer where we keep office supplies and such.

You can designate one shelf for video game consoles and another shelf for your devices, such as iPads. If you want to create a charging station within the cabinet, I suggest placing electronics near outlets so the cords can reach them.

Use bins and baskets to help keep things organized

Bins and baskets are a really important factor when it comes to the setup of your organized space. They help keep like items together while also freeing up space on shelves.

This is my game cupboard! I threw away all of the original packaging for our board games and card games and it saves so much space! It’s life-changing!

You’ll need to decide if you want clear bins (so you can easily see what’s inside) or if you want bins that hide the mess of cord clutter. I usually err on the side of using bins that are not seethrough. I love the uniform look of bins that hide the contents.

Label each area so family members know where to put things away

It’s really difficult to maintain an organized living room when you (or other members of your family don’t know where things go. You can keep your room looking nice by designating certain areas for different types of items.

For example, you might want to create a “puzzle area” or a “video game area.” By doing this, it’s easy for family members to know where things go when they’re finished using them. Plus, it helps consolidate the space you’re taking up. Labeling these spaces helps everyone know where to put things away and makes it much easier for you to keep the room organized.

How do I organize my entertainment center wires?

If you truly want a clean, stylish, organized entertainment center, one of the most important things to do is to organize and hide your cables and wires.

You can do this a few different ways. One way is to use cord management kits that you can find online or at your local hardware store. These usually come with adhesive strips or Velcro loops that you attach to the back of your entertainment center and then thread your cords through. Another way to manage your cords is simply to purchase an adhesive wire shaft that adheres to the wall and hides your cable.

If you look at all of the Pinterest or Instagram photos of beautiful entertainment centers, this is always a high priority. Cables and wires can be unsightly and can work against you when organizing your space.
